چکیده

In order to determine the performance of wireless data transmssion at high data rates consideration of channel transmission characteristics, intersymbol interference reduction (equalization) channel coding is necessary. In this paper, the combination of a modem combating intersymbol interference by means of decision feedback equalization and reducing bit error probability by a combination of convolutional and reed–solomon decoding and a finite– buffer ARQ protocol is discussed. It is shown that the effect of the modem on the performance of the ARQ protocol can be determined quantitatively by identifying the packet error sequence as a markoff process. Furthermore, the burstiness of the resulting error sequence is shown to have a limited impact on the protocol performance in terms of throughput and delay jitter.

Analysis of link-level hybrid FEC/ARQ-SR for wireless links and long-lived TCP traffic

Since the TCP protocol uses the loss of packets as an indication of network congestion, its performance degrades over wireless links, which are characterized by a high bit error rate. Different solutions have been proposed to improve the performance of TCP over wireless links, the most promising one being the use of a hybrid model at the link level combining FEC (Forward Error Correction), ARQ-...

Packet level acknowledgement and Go-Back-N protocol performance in infrared wireless LANs

Infrared wireless LANs may employ repetition rate (RR) coding to increase the symbol capture probability at the receiver. This paper examines the effectiveness of RR coding to utilization for infrared LANs using the physical and link layer parameter values proposed in the Advanced Infrared (AIr) protocol standard, which is developed by the Infrared Data Association (IrDA). Infrared LANs employ ...

Performance analysis of two-user cooperative ARQ protocol over Rayleigh fading channel

In this paper, we present a two-user cooperative automatic repeat request (C-ARQ) protocol which combines cooperative diversity at the physical layer and ARQ at the link layer. In this scheme, distributed Alamouti space-time block coding (DASTBC) is applied to achieve cooperative diversity, and ARQ is used to improve the data link layer reliability. To analyze the performance of the proposed pr...

Hybrid FEC/ARQ Performance and Audio Quality over Wireless Links

Real time flows transmission over wireless networks often suffers from packet loss, delay and jitter. The main problem to implement a wireless network is the high and variable bit error rate in the radio link. In this paper, a hybrid ARQ/FEC scheme with limiting the slots number between the loss of the last retransmission of the original block n and the reception of block n+ φ is analyzed in an...

Cross-Layer Design in Dynamic Spectrum Sharing Systems

We consider a dynamic spectrum sharing system consisting of a primary user, whose licensed spectrum is allowed to be accessed by a secondary user as long as it does not violate the prescribed interference limit inflicted on the primary user. Assuming the Nakagami-m block-fading environment, we aim at maximizing the performance of secondary user’s link in terms of average spectral efficiency (AS...
